The third season of Indian Idol began on 4 May 2007 and concluded on 23 September 2007. It was hosted by Mini Mathur and Hussain Kuwajerwala. Anu Malik, Alisha Chinai, Javed Akhtar and Udit Narayan were the judges. Prashant Tamang won the competition.

He has been singing since childhood, but has never had any formal training. He sings in the police orchestra. He was in the Special Armed Force and has been working with the Kolkata Police since 2002. Prashant's father, who was with Kolkata Police, died when his son was still a teenager. The tragedy forced the teen to leave school and step into his father's shoes to look after his mother and sister.
Known as the lover boy of Idol, he had quit his studies to pursue a career in music. He can sing in six different languages.
He believes that he can make people happy with his music. He is known to listen to music 24 hours a day. He has done several shows for local TV channels and has a Bengali album Cholo Jaai Doore, to his credit. He was famous for emulating the judges on the show. He is greatly inspired by Sonu Nigam. He later sang in a duet with Deepali Kishore, also an Indian Idol contestant
She is extremely passionate about singing. She made judges Anu Malik, Alisha Chinai, Javed Akhtar and Udit Narayan dance to her tunes. This talented girl studying in the Mariampur Senior Secondary School, Kanpur, aspires to be a stage performer. She can even sing in a male voice. She was often called "the Powerhouse performer".
He is Chinese by birth, born in India. Before Idol, he was a dentist. Never trained in music, he believes that he has inherited his singing genes from his father. He was a particular favourite of Alisha Chinai. Upset, she even left the stage after Chang was declared eliminated.
She has been learning classical music for nine years.During the auditions, Anu Malik applauded her singing. She studies in Emerald Heights International School, Indore. She has mastered over Indian and Western Classical instruments. She comes from an artistic Bengali family from Dhanbad.
She has learnt classical music for five years, and is also a good dancer and actor. Extremely hard working, she wants to use her talent and become a singer. She also wants to utilize her talent of spontaneous oration and become a Radio Jockey. She later sang in a duet with Emon Chatterjee.
A great singer and a performer, he was often affectionately called the Chocolate Boy. He also tried out for Indian Idol 2 and made it to the top 50. Apart from making it big as a musician, he would like to join the Indian Army, like his father.
Greatly inspired by singer Sonu Nigam, he believes he has the X-factor to earn a good name in the music industry. He had also tried for Indian Idol seasons 1 and 2. He is a third year engineering student from Sir MVIT Bangalore and is a good dancer and does good mimicry. He has completed his engineering now and Currently he is working in a software company called "Polaris Software Lab Ltd" as a software engineer.
This girl from Dehradun is doing her BSc from IGNOU, and also doing mountaneering. She has also tried out for Fame Gurukul. She takes daily lessons in Taalim.
Coming from a musical family from Kolkata, she has been learning classical music for 20 years. A graduate fron the Calcutta University, she has two Bengali music albums to her credit. She was one of the most versatile contestants on the show.
She was in Indian Idol 2, but being affected by chicken pox, she had to quit the show. This gave her the opportunity of being a part of the third season without any auditions. She has done graduation in music from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata. The first-generation singer from her family, she idolizes Lata Mangeshkar.
The youngest among all the contestants. She aspires to become a famous vocalist. She has won several competetions at the district and state levels in Punjab.
